I Do Not Like This

on

Look, I liked Jennifer Lawrence as much as everyone else, until she was in everydamnthing. She seems very much like someone I would’ve been fantastic friends with in college, and I think I would love her as a person. But she’s the female equivalent of White Guys Named Chris, and she is a ludicrous choice to play Agnes Magnúsdóttir. I have been thinking about Burial Rites for three years since I read it, and I’m so annoyed that one of my favorite books will be getting this film treatment.

I’ve just finished The Good People by Hannah Kent (amazing :)!!) – haven’t read Burial Rites, but from what you say, Burial Rites is going to be made into a movie?

It seems so. I haven’t read The Good People yet, but I’m so excited to! Burial Rites was extraordinary.

It was for a book group, probably wouldn’t have read it otherwise, but just SO absorbing and shocking! I’ve heard of Burial Rites and will read it now. And yes, they are or have made the movie. Will you go to see it?

I can’t decide! Probably, unless I hear terrible things about it. Otherwise I’m sure I’ll give it a chance and hope for the best.

It’s hard when a book you love and have inhabited is made into a film. Nobody can live up to the person we imagine in our heads. If I were to cast Burial Rites, I would have gone with Anna Paquin. J Law is too young.

Mike asked me who I would cast and I don’t really know, largely because when I think of Hollywood I mostly remember the stars of the 90s, when I was a teenager. Anna Paquin would be a good choice!

I think she has the right amount of inner steel and sensitivity to do Agnes justice. Jennifer needs to live a bit more!
